Nominations for the 37th annual American Music Awards were announced at a October 13 press conference, with six nods for American country music singer Taylor Swift and five for late American pop icon Michael Jackson.

Taylor and Jackson are both contenders for the ceremony’s artist of year prize. Other major American nominees included rapper Eminem with four noms, pop singers Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, hip-hop band Black Eyed Peas, rapper T.I. and rock band Kings of Leon (all tied for three nominations each). The singer-and-actress has adopted the new persona for dance tune ‘Fresh Out the Oven’ – which is available to listen to on the internet – but is not going to perform as her alter-ego all the time.
